While three spas were used as thermal carbonated brines for bathing, there are six medicinal springs (so-called drinking fountains) in Bad Nauheim and in the Schwalheim district, five of which can still be used for a drinking cure today. The healing waters differ in their specific composition and temperature, but are all subject to constant quality control. Due to the high content of freely dissolved carbonic acid, the healing waters are also called "Säuerlinge".
Did you know that the Bad Nauheim healing water saved Otto von Bismarck from a leg amputation? Because of the poor blood circulation in his leg, his doctors initially advised him to amputate. But after a spa treatment in Bad Nauheim the incredible thing happened: the leg was saved!
Bathing cures with natural carbonic acid water are among the best researched procedures in balneotherapy. The Bad Nauheim bubbles are used as a spa treatment for prevention and as an accompanying therapy for diseases of the cardiovascular system, vessels and skin.

In the Sprudelhof the Sprudel Ernst Ludwig, named after the Grand Duke of Hesse and near the Rhine, large and small sparkling mineral water. They are still used today for applications in the clinics and in the baths.
"I also do the well cure. The water tastes like herring with licorice."
Even the Romans drank natural waters with a high content of minerals and active ingredients to do something good for their health. Thus the drinking cure is one of the oldest known healing methods.
The carbon dioxide in the Bad Nauheim springs makes them particularly digestible. Due to their naturally high carbon dioxide content, they increase the blood circulation in the stomach lining and promote digestion. A drinking cure drains and flushes the organism. Many doctors recommend it in combination with exercise. A drinking cure is also recommended twice a year for purification. In the case of already existing illnesses, it is advisable to ask your family doctor for advice beforehand.
