Rosy tradition

Learn all about the queen of flowers in the world's first museum dedicated to the art and cultural history of the rose.

Steinfurth Rose Museum

The rose is the most beautiful in the whole world of flowers - this is especially true in the Steinfurth area of Bad Nauheim, Germany's oldest rose village. From here, the rose has been cultivated and shipped throughout the world for more than 150 years. The museum's permanent exhibition, “Rosy Times”, tells of this tradition but also the history of the rose in art and culture.

The museum offers visitors the chance to experience the rose in all its diversity. That it has no thorns, but prickles, is probably known to many. It is considered a symbol of love and the muse of the fine arts, but how exactly was the rose used as a medicinal plant? Answers to these questions can be found in the Rose Museum's exhibition. You can also see how a finished rose plant is created over the course of two years. The Steinfurth rose village dispatches some 2 million plants a year. In addition, the museum offers visitors a variety of events and annually changing special exhibitions.

A special treat

In the museum café, make sure not to miss out on the rose gateau! Lovingly decorated with rose petals, the cake is a unique taste experience. And if you want to take a souvenir home with you, you'll find beautiful rose-related souvenirs in the museum shop: rose oil and rose water, handmade soaps, high-quality delicacies made from Steinfurth rose petals such as rose tea, rose jam or rose sparkling wine, as well as scarves, bags, small items of jewellery and fine stationery with rose motifs.
