The journey is the goal

Embark on a walking adventure through the Wetterau and Taunus.

Hiking in the Wetterau and Taunus

On the themed hiking trails through forests, mixed orchards, fields and the idyllic river valleys of the Usa and Wetter, you will experience nature's beauty and stunning views. In addition, three Nordic walking routes offer the opportunity for gentle fitness.

The hiking trails in the Taunus and Wetterau regions are among the most beautiful in Hesse. We believe that the five looping routes in Bad Nauheim, dedicated to different themes, belong to them: the Wettertal trail, Salt trail, Rose trail, Hut trail and Panorama trail, ranging from 4 to 12 kilometres, offer unique views. It's worth taking breaks during the hike as there are lovely places to stop for refreshments and interesting sights along the path. If you want to cover a longer distance, simply combine the trails with each other.

All the hiking trails are signposted with the logo of the respective route. This comprehensive signage ensures you never get lost. Furthermore, the routes are checked annually to guarantee an unforgettable hiking experience.

However, there are not only local trails: the pilgrimage route “Lutherweg 1521” (Luther trail), which spans five federal states, also passes through Bad Nauheim. In addition, three terrain spa trails with varying degrees of difficulty provide both beginners and advanced hikers the opportunity to test and gradually increase their performance.

Themed hiking trails & tours

Discover five looping routes and other tours in Bad Nauheim.

Wettertal trail

On the outskirts of Bad Nauheim's districts, the Wetter stream meanders through expansive meadows and gardens. A diverse natural landscape with magnificent panoramas, rolling hills and the nature reserve of the Wisselsheim salt marshes invites you to discover them on this circular trail.

  • Duration: 3.5 to 5 hours
  • Length: 12.2 km
  • Difficulty: moderate
  • Route: signposts available
  • Starting point: Bad Nauheim-Steinfurth Festplatz (fairground area), Im Kirschgarten or graduation tower I, Zanderstraße 3
Salt trail

The brine springs are integral to Bad Nauheim and made it what it is today. The warm, salty and carbonated water has shaped the town's history from its origins to the present day. The route is lined with the various stages of salt extraction from the source to the salt factory.

  • Duration: 3 to 4 hours
  • Length: 10.8 km
  • Difficulty: moderate
  • Route: signposts available
  • Starting point: Graduation tower I, Zanderstraße 3
Rosen-Wanderweg

On this trail, everything revolves around the rose. The plant symbolising love and eternal youth can be admired in the show gardens of rose nurseries and along the route. For every rose sponsorship, the initiative “1,100 Roses for 1,100 Years of Steinfurth” plants a new rose along the path.

  • Duration: 1 to 1.5 hours
  • Length: 4.2 km
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Route: signposts available
  • Starting point: Bad Nauheim-Steinfurth Festplatz (fairground area), Im Kirschgarten
Hut trail

The Hut trail winds around the ski slope in a large loop. It passes by the huts, most of which are located along the path, inviting you to linger in the forest park. Information boards at the belvederes provide interesting details on the huts' origin.

  • Duration: 1 to 2 hours
  • Length: 5.1 km
  • Difficulty: moderate
  • Route: signposts available
  • Starting point: Hiking information portal at the ski slope or Weberhütte car park, Johannisberg 14
Panorama trail

This trail features fantastic views of the eastern edge of the Taunus region, unique panoramas and mixed orchards. Numerous resting spots allow for moments of tranquillity. The view from the Johannisberg, Bad Nauheim's local “mountain”, over the spa town is particularly worthwhile.

  • Duration: 1 to 1.5 hours
  • Length: 4.3 km
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Route: signposts available
  • Starting point: Weberhütte car park, Johannisberg 14
Lutherweg (Luther trail) 1521

To commemorate the 500th anniversary of the publication of Luther's theses in 2017, the two Luther sites of Wittenberg and Worms were connected by a signposted pilgrimage trail around 400 km in length. The section of the “Lutherweg 1521” pilgrimage path starts in Bad Nauheim at graduation tower III. It splits in Laubach and merges again in Friedberg. You can find more information at www.lutherweg.de (Website in german).

  • Duration: 1 to 1.5 hours
  • Length: 4.9 km
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Route: signposts available
  • Starting point: Graduation tower III, Schwalheimer Straße
Short Wetter stream trail

This varied route leads through the districts of Steinfurth and Wisselsheim, along the Wetter stream and across fields. As the path offers little shade, we advise you to ensure sufficient sun protection and take enough with you to drink, especially on hot summer days.

  • Duration: 2 hours
  • Length: 6.6 km
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Route: no signposts
  • Starting point: Ruf Rosenschule (rose nursery) car park Bad Nauheim-Steinfurth, Riedgraben
Winterstein trail

The tour initially takes you across meadows and past several water sources, where you can observe frogs and newts, among others. It continues through the forest to the Winterstein tower, where you have a beautiful view of the Frankfurt skyline.

  • Duration: 2 hours
  • Length: 7.6 km
  • Difficulty: moderate
  • Route: no signposts
  • Starting point: Winterstein Forsthaus (forester's lodge) car park Ober-Mörlen, Wintersteinstrasse
Between Nieder-Mörlen and Steinfurth

There are attractive field and meadow paths between the districts of Nieder-Mörlen and Steinfurth, which are ideal for shorter hiking tours. The circular route starts in Friedhofstrasse in Nieder-Mörlen. However, the route is less suitable for hot summer days as there is hardly any shade.

  • Duration: 1.5 - 2 hours
  • Length: 6.3 km
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Route: no signposts
  • Starting point: Friedhofstraße in Nieder-Mörlen
